OWL Member Profile: 10 Questions With Beverly M. Loney, COE

loney.jpgWhere do you work?

I am the practice administrator at Fishkind, Bakewell & Maltzman Eye Care and Surgery Center in Tucson, Ariz.

How long have you been in ophthalmology?

Twenty-six years. I started when I was 12 (just kidding). I joined the practice in 1983 with one physician and two employees. Now the practice has five providers with three locations, an ambulatory surgery center and three optical stores with 48 employees. I am fortunate to have been an active part of the growth of this business over the years.

What is one tip you find helpful in balancing work and personal life?

Take time to evaluate your personal life for happiness and fulfillment. If your personal life is not “cutting it” … work on it! Both your work and your personal life will benefit.

Who was the most influential person in your life as a child?

My dad … such a hard-working, loving, wonderfully dedicated family man.

Who is the most influential person in your life today?

My fiance, who helps me smell the roses.

What is your favorite family ritual?

Eating pie for breakfast on Christmas morning.

What is your favorite part of the day?

Early mornings, especially in the summer.

What do you like best about belonging to OWL?

Getting to know other OWL members.

How long have you been a member of OWL and why did you join?

Nearly 2 years. I attended one get-together at ASCRS as a guest and felt it was a great organization for networking with some amazing women in the industry.

Do you have any suggestions for OWL?

Post get-together dates early and continue with communications between meetings.
