Use available tools to develop a unique, compelling online identity
Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn alone are no longer sufficient to create an online persona. Users need personalized social networks to reach others with similar interests and goals.
Internet users need to build an online persona to be viable in today’s social and commercial marketplace, an expert told OWL members at the evening event held during the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery meeting in Boston.

Letter from the President

Greetings to all! A lot has happened since our last eNEWS — our annual OWL event at ASCRS, our first-ever OWL gathering at ARVO and our first two program webinars!
The ASCRS event, “Social Media and Face Time,” was well-attended and well-received. This month, we hosted nearly 40 OWL members and prospective members at the ARVO meeting at our first gathering there, overlooking the ocean in Florida. Also this month were our first two webinars, “Intro to Ophthalmology” and “Balancing Career and Family.” We had a great turnout and participants found the content meaningful and informative.
We’re also excited about our upcoming collaboration with Women in Ophthalmology for their Summer Symposium (August 12-15 in Pinehurst, NC). The WIO Summer Symposium is a great opportunity to hone leadership skills, network with women ophthalmologists and industry professionals in a relaxed environment and further explore ophthalmology. If you’ve never attended a Summer Symposium I highly recommend it (this will be my sixth meeting!). There are also company exhibitor opportunities that include a free registration. Visit WIO’s website for more information and to register for the meeting.
Lastly, we’re pleased to publish the results of our recent membership survey. Thank you to all that participated — you gave us excellent and actionable feedback. We’re always striving to provide great value for your OWL membership and we’ve got some new ideas based on the survey results.
If you didn’t get a chance to participate or have further feedback from our recent programs, feel free to write us at info@owlsite.org and let us know how we’re doing.
Thanks! Pamela
