OWL Member Profile:

10 questions with Beth Marsh, of Jacksonville, FL

Compiled by Sheryl Stevenson, Managing Editor, Ophthalmology Times

Where do you work?

I currently work as director, business development and technology transfer for Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Vision Care Inc. During my tenure at J&J, I also have worked in sales and marketing.

How long have you been in ophthalmology?

I have been working in the ophthalmic marketplace for more than 20 years. I began my career as a sales representative.

What is one tip you find helpful in balancing work and personal life?

Finding balance between work and family on a daily basis is difficult. Realize that you can't be everything to everyone every day. However, strive to find balance over the week or a month.

Who was the most influential person in your life as a child?

My father. As the father of all girls, he always told us we could do anything and be anything -- including president of the United States.

Who is the most influential person in your life today?

From a personal perspective, it would be my husband, Tom. He helps keep me balanced and is a great listener. My first district manager probably had the most impact on my professional life. He had a passion for learning and ophthalmology that I carry with me today.

What is your favorite family ritual?

The 10 days each summer my family (parents, sisters, husbands, and kids) all spend in Northern Michigan. As we live all over the country, we reserve this time each year to reconnect.

What is your favorite part of the day?

First thing in the morning -- each new day is a clean slate.

What do you like best about belonging to OWL?

The connections and friendships I have made with other successful and wonderful women who share my industry and so much more.

How long have you been a member of OWL, and why did you join?

Since the very beginning, when I worked for Santen. Adrienne Graves, one of our founding OWL members, encouraged our Santen team to join.

Do you have any suggestions for OWL?

Continue to provide interesting and inspiring programs on OWL Mondays.
